What We Do:  Mission Statement

Adopted April 25, 1990

The mission of Central Presbyterian Church is to proclaim in word and deed God's salvation of the world through the giving of God's Son, Jesus Christ.

The Mission Statement of Central Presbyterian Church in Russellville, Arkansas, is intended to portray our congregation's mission commitments. The cross of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America represents the centrality of Christ's death and resurrection for our identity as His church. The good news of God's love which is revealed to us in Jesus Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit, is addressed to the whole person, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. The core of the statement is the charge to proclaim in our words and deeds Jesus Christ as the One in whom the word and activity of God are united, carrying out this charge through five major areas of work.

Evangelism

To witness on a personal and corporate basis to the presence of God and the good news of Jesus Christ. To support others in their journeys of faith through shared personal experiences. To reach out to those not affiliated with the church, to invite them to visit worship services and meet and come to know other believers. To develop, through worship and study, a personal evangelism reflected in our daily lives.

Service

To allow the love of God in Jesus Christ to flow through us to others, so that we provide services with compassion and concern for human dignity. To promote social justice on behalf of those who suffer hunger, homelessness, poverty, and discrimination, basing this action on the model of Christ's cross as a sign of sacrifice and suffering. To cooperate with community agencies and churches of other traditions in service to people in need.

Education

To acknowledge the supreme authority of the Bible. To use an historical and literary approach to study the Bible. To examine our Judeo-Christian traditions and our Presbyterian heritage. To encourage small group study of the Bible as it relates to issues of personal and societal life.

Nurture

To build a network of support and nurture among our own members with special emphases on the youth, young adults, the elderly, and inactive members. To recognize and develop the unique gifts that each individual has to contribute. To enable members to apply their gifts for the good of the church and the wider community in which they live and work.

Worship

To provide opportunities to glorify God and to experience the presence of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, through corporate and individual worship. To foster a special appreciation and awareness of worship in the Reformed Tradition. To provide for the development of prayer, meditation and other spiritual disciplines in our lives.
